On August 12, Ambassador Ishigami met with the Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Counter-Piracy Air Patrol Unit during its stop at Velana International Airport, and wished the crew success on their mission to protect vessels off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden.
On August 21, Ambassador Ishigami met with the returning Unit during its stop at the airport on its way back to Japan following the completion of its mission, and expressed her appreciation for the members’ dedicated service.
