Reception to Celebrate the 66th Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

On February 11, 2026, H.E. Mrs. ISHIGAMI Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, hosted a reception to commemorate the 66th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan in Male. The reception was graced by the Chief Guest H.E. Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, the Minister of Education, as well representatives from the Government of the Maldives, diplomatic missions, and international organizations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu emphasized the longstanding relations between the Maldives and Japan and conveyed his appreciation for the Government of Japan’s support towards the development of the Maldives. Ambassador ISHIGAMI shed light on Japan’s contributions to the Maldives over the past year, reiterating the commitment to further enhancing Japan-Maldives ties as both countries will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027.
During the reception, the guests were able to experience a special selection of Japanese cuisine, including sushi and traditional desserts, prepared by the Embassy’s official chef. Additionally, guests also enjoyed information booths set up by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan International Cooperation Centre (JICE) and JDS Alumni Association, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Yamaki, a renowned Japanese seafood manufacturer that produces katsuobushi or bonito flakes using premium Maldivian skipjack tuna in Addu City.
