The Government of Japan provides vessels under the Economic and Social Development Program to Maldives Police Service

 

Malé, August 18, 2025 – Ambassador of Japan to Maldives Her Excellency Ishigami Rumiko officially handed over five (5) launch vessels and two (2) rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs) to the Maldives Police Service. This grant assistance, provided under the Economic and Social Development Programme, aims to enhance operational capacity and bolster maritime security in the Maldives.
 
The vessels provided today are part of a broader initiative signed under the Exchange of Notes signed in May 2022. This grant, worth six hundred and fifty million Japanese Yen (¥650,000,000) (approximately USD 5.1 million or MVR 78.6 million) aims to further promote the economic and social development of the Maldives. The project is specifically designed to enhance the operational capabilities of the Maldives Police Service, with a focus on strengthening maritime security and safety in the country's outer islands. It will also help facilitate a swift and effective response to maritime incidents and other safety concerns within the nation’s vast maritime domain.
 
The Government of Japan hopes that these vessels will strengthen the capacity and capability of the Maldives Police Service in providing day to day policing across the country effectively and with efficiently.
