Handover ceremony of 178 books donated by "READ JAPAN PROJECT"

May 11, 2025 – H.E. Mrs.ISHIGAMI Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Maldives, handed over a donation of 178 books to the Kulhudhuffushi Public Library at a ceremony attended by Mr. Mohamed Athif, Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi, members of the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, and representatives of the Kulhudhuffushi Public Library.
The books were donated under the Read Japan Project, which was launched in 2008 by The Nippon Foundation, with the objective of providing an accurate picture of contemporary Japan to readers all around the world.
Previously, Japan donated books under this Read Japan Project to the National Library of Maldives and Maldives College of Higher Education in 2010, Hiriya School in 2017, the Civil Service Training Institute in 2018 and Maldives National University in 2023.
The Embassy of Japan hopes that this donation to the Kulhudhuffushi Public Library will evoke interest in Japan among the youth and students, and provide them with a deeper understanding of contemporary Japan.
