The Japanese Government, through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), offers scholarships to Maldivian students who wish to study in Japan.
Applicants can get the application guidelines and application form via the links below. Kindly submit the required number of hardcopies of the completed form with the required documents to the Embassy.

3. Knowledge of Japanese Language
All applicants are required to take a Japanese language exam as part of the First Screening. Prior study of the Japanese language will be an added advantage. All applicants must have the Japanese language ability to adapt to living in Japan and, if selected, must be willing to deepen their understanding of Japanese language and culture after arrival. A six-month preparatory education program will be provided for those who require additional language support.
4. How to Apply
All required documents for MEXT Scholarship should be submitted in physical form to:

Important Notes
• Document Submission: Please note that submitted documents will not be returned. Applicants must submit attested true copies of original documents.
• Selection Process: Only candidates who pass the initial screening will be contacted regarding the next steps. Kindly understand that we are unable to provide individual feedback or reasons for the selection results.

September 1st, 2025 | Deadline for applicants to request a provisional acceptance to Japanese universities |
November, 2025 | The secondary (MEXT) screening and university placement |
January - February 2026 | Notification of results for the secondary (MEXT) screening and university placement |
April or September 2026 | Departure for Japan and start of scholarship period |
