Important Notes
- Transit visa is not required for travelers transiting through Japan if they do not need to pass through Japanese Immigration to board the next flight. Please check with the airline ahead of time to determine whether you need to enter Japan/pass Japanese Immigration for a flight transfer.
-Applicants transiting through Japan are required to submit tickets/itinerary/accommodation that clearly indicates transit segments.
-Applicants who will be transiting through Japan on two separate occasions are required to submit tickets/itinerary/accommodation for both transits in order to apply for a double entry transit visa.
Documentation to be submitted for Visa Application
-Please DO NOT STAPLE any documentation or photographs.

1. Visa Application form.
- You may fill in the form either digitally or by hand with pen.
- Signature must be by hand with pen. Digital signatures are not accepted.
- Leave the following fields blank: “Certificate of Eligibility No.”, “Guarantor or reference in Japan”, and “Inviter in Japan”

2. A valid Passport.

3. Copy of Passport Data page.​​

4. One passport-size photo on a plain background taken within 6 months of the date of application, pasted on the Application Form. (Do not staple!)

5. A Travel Itinerary in Japan.
- This document needs to detail the planned daily activities, as well as the places of accommodation along with their contact numbers, for each day spent in Japan.

6. Reservation of flight tickets **.
- Reservation must be for the full round trip to Japan, starting from your departure from Maldives, until your return to Maldives.
- If your trip includes stops at other countries between your departure/return to Maldives, flight reservations for those countries must be included as well.


7. Reservation of accommodation in Japan **.
- Reservation must indicate the place’s name, address and contact number.
- Include reservations for all hotels/airbnbs etc. for the duration of your stay.

8. Copy of Visa permitting entry into the country travelled after transit in Japan (if applicable).
 
9. Proof of sufficient funds to cover all travel expenses ***. You may submit:
- Bank statement, covering a minimum duration of the past three months, showing a sufficient end balance. (You may submit statements of more than one account.)
- Or, an original and photocopy of a bank account book.
 
10. For expatriates: A copy of re-entry visa of Maldives (eg: Marriage Visa, Dependent Visa)
For work visas, please submit a copy of your E-visa.
For other visas, if obtained on or after November 23, 2025, please submit a copy of your E-visa.
For valid visas (excluding work visas) issued before November 23, 2025, please submit a copy of the visa sticker in your passport.
 
11. For expatriates: A copy of Work Permit card or printout of Electronic Work Permit
