The Government of Japan pledges a grant in value of USD 89,900 for National Disaster Management Authority under the Grant Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.

February 20, 2025 – The Grant Contract for “The Project for the Provision of Emergency Support Vehicles in Male’” under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) was signed between Her Excellency Mrs. ISHIGAMI Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Mr. Hisan Hassan, Chief Executive of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
 
Under the terms of the Grant Contract, the Government of Japan has committed a grant of eighty-nine thousand nine hundred US Dollars (USD 89,900), equivalent to 1.38 million Maldivian Rufiyaa, to provide two emergency support vehicles to the NDMA.
 
With the implementation of this project, the NDMA will be equipped with vehicles dedicated to emergency evacuations and transporting essential items during disasters. This initiative will enhance its operational capacity, ensuring timely and effective responses to incidents such as fires and floods in Male’ area. Furthermore, this assistance will complement the NDMA’s ongoing efforts to enhance national resilience and emergency preparedness.
 
The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy to contribute to sustainable development of the Maldives.
