An awarding ceremony of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for 2024

Dr. YAJIMA Hikoichi, former Professor at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, who was conferred the Foreign Minister's Commendation at the FY 2024 ceremony in Tokyo for his promotion of academic exchange through the history of Islam.
Dr. YAJIMA worked with Maldivian researchers to translate several Maldivian historical documents from Arabic to English. Those works become an epoch-making leap in sharing Maldives' history and culture with the world. Also, he spent 20 years translating the chronicles of traveler Ibn Battuta into Japanese.
