The Government of Japan officially hands over an emergency support vehicle and dewatering equipment to the Maldivian Red Crescent under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme

Kulhudhuffushi, June 30, 2024 Her Excellency Mrs. Takeuchi Midori, Ambassador of Japan to Maldives officially handed over an emergency support vehicle and dewatering equipment to Ms. Fathimath Himya, Secretary General of the Maldivian Red Crescent under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project at a ceremony held in Kulhudhuffushi City.
This assistance is in line with the Grant Contract signed between the Embassy of Japan in Maldives and the Maldivian Red Crescent on February 9, 2023. Under the terms of the contract, a grant of Forty Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty-Nine US dollars (USD 40,569) was committed for the procurement of an emergency support vehicle and dewatering equipment for the Maldivian Red Crescent Kulhudhuffushi City Unit.
Through this project, volunteers of the Emergency Response Team of the Maldivian Red Crescent Kulhudhuffushi City Unit will be equipped with a vehicle dedicated to emergency evacuation and transporting essential items during disasters, as well as a dewatering pump and horses, enhancing their ability to respond to flooding incidents efficiently and safely. This assistance will complement the ongoing significant efforts of the Maldivian Red Crescent to strengthen the resilience of communities against emergencies.
The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy to contribute to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
