The Government of Japan pledges a grant in value of USD 73,538 for Society for Health Education (SHE) under the Grant Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.

 Malé, March 4, 2024 – The Grant Contract for “The Project for Strengthening Medical System for Clinical Diagnostics and Reproductive Health Services in Male Island” under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects scheme was signed between Her Excellency Mrs. TAKEUCHI Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Ms. Iyasha Leena, Chief Executive Officer of Society for Health Education (SHE). It was exchanged at the ceremony held at SHE today.

 Under the terms of the Grant Contract, the Government of Japan has committed a grant of seventy-three thousand five hundred and thirty-eight US Dollars (USD 73,538), (equivalent to Maldivian Rufiyya 1.13 million) for the provision of the total 10 clinical equipment and supplies to SHE.

 With the implementation of this project, SHE will be able to upgrade the existing facility of thalassemia and diagnostic laboratory, to include gene sequencing technology, and introduce scan services at their in-house family planning clinic and their outreach programs as well.

 The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy to contribute to sustainable development of the Maldives.
