The Government of Japan officially hands over the newly constructed two classrooms to Foakaidhoo School in Foakaidhoo Island, Shaviyani Atoll under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme
November 13, 2022 H.E. Mrs. Takeuchi Midori, Ambassador of Japan to Maldives officially handed over the completed new building to Foakaidhoo School under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project.
This assistance is in line with the Grant Contract signed between the Embassy of Japan in Maldives and Foakaidhoo School on February 20, 2020. Under the grant, 82,522 USD was donated to construct 2 classrooms. The main objective of this assistance is to ensure quality education for the students. The building will also be utilized as an evacuation place in case of a natural disaster. The Project was implemented by Foakaidhoo School under the support of the Ministry of Education.
The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy in order to contribute to sustainable development of the Maldives.
