On September 19th, the Embassy of Japan in Maldives held a Japanese culture sessions at Laamu Atoll Education Centre, Fonadhoo, presented by Mr. Ota Yoshu and Ms. Zeenath Zaki. Fonadhoo is the capital island in Laamu atoll where JOCV taught music until 2017, and 238 students from Gr.5 to 8 and teachers eagerly participated in this very successful and wonderful one day event with this school.
One of the highlights of the event was Japanese practical session, origami and chopstick. Students were excited and greatly enjoyed using chopsticks. We held a nuts-grabbing competition for Gr. 5 & 6 using chopsticks. Not only students but also adults were eager to participate.
In this event, a wide range of participants learned about Japanese culture, lifestyle and school discipline that will serve for the betterment of their daily lives and enhance mutual understanding on the culture of Japan and Maldives. This event was a great success.
