The Government of Japan handed medical equipment and newly constructed labour room and laboratory facility to improve the health services of Bodufolhudhoo Health Center under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme


 AA.Bodufolhudhoo, August 25, 2022  H.E. Mrs. Takeuchi Midori, Ambassador of Japan to Maldives officially handed over medical equipment and newly constructed labour room and laboratory facility in value of 117,180 USD to Association for Awareness, Recreation and Unity (AARU) under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project in a ceremony held at the Bodufolhudhoo Health Center.
 
 The Grant Contract of the project was signed between the Embassy of Japan and the AARU on March 15, 2021. Under this assistance, 31 medical equipment for laboratory and obstetric procedures and 3 beds for in-house patients were procured which the labour room and laboratory facility were newly constructed. This project enable the Bodhufolhudhoo Health Center to provide comprehensive primary care as well as services related to maternity and infant care for the people in Bodufolhudhoo and nearby islands. The project was implemented by AARU, the first community based NGO established in the Bodufolhudhoo with the support of the Bodufolhudhoo Island Council and the Ministry of Health.

  The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy in order to contribute to sustainable development of the Maldives.
