Handover ceremony of equipment to MNDF Coast Guard with the financial contribution of the Government of Japan

April 27, 2022 – Equipment to enhance Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), Navigation equipment and 2 Rigid-hulled inflatable boats were handed over to MNDF Coast Guard with the aim of strengthening the overall operational capacity and readiness of the Government of Maldives in ensuring people’s safety at sea, as well as national security by disrupting maritime crime, through the capacity building of the MNDF Coast Guard engaged in maritime operations, including search and rescue and law enforcement.
These items were procured through UNODC with the financial contribution of the Government of Japan to UNODC’s Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) under the “Project to Strengthen the Capacity of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre”, as well as the other two projects under Japan’s Supplementary Budget to enhance maritime law enforcement in the Indian Ocean Region. The total value of donations from UNODC-GMCP for the Maldives Coast Guard through this handover is $489.126 USD.
