Monbukagakusho (MEXT), the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology offers three different scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan. Only Maldivian citizens are eligible to apply for a MEXT Scholarship. Applicants who have Maldivian nationality can only apply for MEXT Scholarship (Those who have other nationality should contact Japanese Embassy in their respective countries).
All MEXT Scholarship applications will be subject to a document screening after the appointed application deadline. Only those applicants who pass the document screening will be invited to the Embassy to sit for the interview and exams for their respective scholarship. Please read the guidelines carefully for the scholarships you are interested in and view past MEXT examinations and answers and answers as well. Research
This scholarship offers applicants the opportunity to enroll in a master’s course, a doctoral course, or a professional graduate course at a graduate school, or to conduct research in a specialized field at an undergraduate department, graduate school, institute attached to a university, etc. without the aim of completing the course. Any field of study is eligible for the scholarship, but applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field. Applicants must find a Japanese professor who is willing to supervise their research.

College of Technology Students
This scholarship offers applicants the opportunity to study in an advanced course at a college of technology. The scholarship grantees will study in a one-year preparatory course (Japanese language and affairs etc.) and then will be enrolled into the third year of the course at the college of technology and receive specialized education for three years (in the case of maritime engineering, for three and a half years.). All classes will be given in the Japanese language. A grantee who graduates will be awarded a diploma and an academic title of “Associate”.

Specialized Training College Students
This scholarship offers applicants the opportunity to study at a Japanese professional training school studying in one of several fields. The scholarship grantees will study in a one-year preparatory course (Japanese language and affairs etc.) and then will be enrolled into the Specialized Training College and receive professional education for two years (in the case of maritime engineering, for three and a half years.). All classes will be given in the Japanese language. A grantee who graduates will be awarded a diploma.
