The Project for Upgrading of Maamendhoo School in Maamendhoo Island, Gaafu Alifu Atoll

      Malé, February 11, 2021 The Government of Japan has committed a grant of USD 90,571 (equivalent to MVR 1,384,830) for “The Project for Upgrading of Maamendhoo School in Maamendhoo Island, Gaafu Alifu Atoll” under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.
 
     The Grant Contract was signed between Her Excellency Ms. YANAI Keiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Mr. Azim Abdulla, Principal of Maamendhoo School in Gaafu Alifu atoll.
 
     The Project will be implemented by Maamendhoo School with the support of the Ministry of Education. The project funds for the construction of 2 classrooms and renovation of the existing school building in Maamendhoo School. This assistance will enhance the learning environment to ensure the classrooms are safe and comfortable for children to enjoy learning.
 
     The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. The GGP in Maldives has been widely implemented in areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy since 1996. To date, 22 projects have been funded under the scheme, which exceeds USD 2.3 million in total value.
