Upgrading of Home for People with Special Needs in Guraidhoo Island, Kaafu Atoll

On 9 January 2020, The Government of Japan has provided a grant of USD 86,961 (equivalent to MVR1, 304,415) for “Upgrading of Home for People with Special Needs in Guraidhoo Island, Kaafu Atoll” under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.
The Grant Contract was signed between Her Excellency Ms. YANAI Keiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives and Mr. Imran Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer, Home for People with Special Needs.
The project fund for the refurbishment works of clinic which includes replacing the roof, floor tiles, doors, windows and electric wirings and making comfortable seating arrangement for counselling sessions and wheelchair accessibility for disabled patients.
The grand aid also includes following equipment;
1. 4 patient beds
2. 1 refrigerator for medicines,
3. 1 stethoscope,
4. 4 aspirators
5. 2 respirators
6. 4 electrocardiograph system
7. 4 tables for medical equipment
8. 4 sets of surgery equipment and
9. 1 autoclave
The GGP scheme is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives in order to empower the people at the grassroots level. The GGP in Maldives has been widely implemented in areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy since 1996. Most recently a grant contract of MVR 4,526,325 was signed on January 6, 2020 for installation of Incinerator in Holhudhoo Island, Noonu Atoll.
