Japan provides 21 ambulances worth US $ 1.4 million to strengthen health sector of the Republic of Maldives

Malé, October 8, 2019 H.E. Ms. Keiko Yanai, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives handed over 21 ambulances in value of US $ 1.4 million to H.E. Mr. Abdulla Ameen, Minister of Health, at a ceremony held in Republic Square, Malé today. These ambulances will be distributed to 21 islands across 15 atolls.
The ambulances are donated as part of the grant of 300 million Japanese Yen (equivalent to 2.8 million USD) committed for the health sector in the Maldives, in line with the Exchange of Notes signed by Government of Japan and Government of Maldives in June 2018, under the “The Economic and Social Development Programme’’.
The Government and people of Japan hope that these ambulances will complement the efforts to strengthen the emergency response system in the Maldives.
