Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP)

The Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme is part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) since 1989. The Government of Japan provides support to non-profit organizations that are engaged in socio-economic development in the Maldives. The GGP scheme provides flexible and quick support to comparatively small-scale development projects which aim to improve the social well-being of people at the grassroots level.
Application and Selection
Application Process:
1) Submit the Application Form (Project Proposal) to the Embassy.
2) After screening, the Embassy will inform the applicants of the results.

Upper Limit of Grant Amount
The grant amount is subject to discussion.Duration of Project
Projects must be completed within one year from the day when a Grant Contract is signed. Eligible Applicants
Non-profit organizations falling into the following categories:1) Non-Governmental Organizations
2) Community-Based Organizations
3) Medical Institutes (e.g. Hospitals, Health Centers, etc.)
4) Educational Institutes (e.g. Schools)
5) Local Governments (e.g. Atoll Councils, Island Councils)
*Individuals and for-profit organizations are not eligible.
Focal Areas of Assistance
Components NOT supported
The following areas and expenses are not covered by GGP assistance:1) Projects related to culture, sports, or research
2) Projects with political or religious purpose
3) Projects with potential military use
4) Any form of taxes including GST
5) Registration fees related to funded equipment
6) Administrative costs, such as office management fees, staff salaries
