Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP)

   The Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme is part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) since 1989. The Government of Japan provides support to non-profit organizations that are engaged in socio-economic development in the Maldives. The GGP scheme provides flexible and quick support to comparatively small-scale development projects which aim to improve the social well-being of people at the grassroots level.

Application and Selection
   The Embassy accepts the applications on a year round basis.
Application Process:
1. Submit Application Form (Project Proposal) to the Embassy
2. After screening, the Embassy will inform the applicants of the result

Upper Limit of Assistance
   10 million Japanese Yen per project, in principle.
 
Duration of Project
   Within one year from the day when a Grant Contract is signed. GGP will not give additional grants for the same projects.
 
Eligible Applicants
   Non-profit organizations as specified below:
1) Non-Governmental Organizations,
2) Community Based Organizations,
3) Medical Institutes (e.g. Hospitals, Health Centers, etc.),
4) Educational Institutes (e.g. Schools),
5) Local Governments (e.g. Atoll Councils).
*Individuals and  profit organizations are not eligible.

Focal Areas of Assistance
   GGP mainly focuses on the areas that aim to improve Basic Human Needs such as projects that are highly beneficial at the grassroots level and those that require timely support on humanitarian grounds.  
 
Components NOT supported
  The following areas and expenses are not covered by GGP assistance:
□Projects for culture, sports, or research,
□Projects with political, or religious purpose,
□Projects for possible military use,
□Any form of taxes including GST,
□Registration fees in relation to equipment provided,
□Administrative costs, such as office management fees, staff salaries, etc.
