The Government of Japan provides a grant for Omadhoo School
under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security project
 
Malé, October 23, 2022 The Government of Japan has committed a grant of Eighty Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty-One US Dollars (USD 80,731), (equivalent to MVR 1.2 million) forThe project for upgrading of Omadhoo School in Omadhoo Island, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll” under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.
 
The Grant Contract was signed between Her Excellency Mrs. TAKEUCHI Midori, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Mr. Hassan Amir, Principal of Omadhoo School at a ceremony held today at the Ministry of Education.
 
The Project will be implemented by Omadhoo School with the support of the Ministry of Education. Under the terms of the Grant Contact, the project funds for the construction of a classroom and an accessible toilet for Special Education Need (SEN) children in the school. This assistance will enhance the environment to ensure that the classrooms are safe and comfortable for children to enjoy learning. The facility will also be utilized as an emergency evacuation shelter in case of natural disasters on the island.
 
The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy with a view to contributing to sustainable development of the Maldives.
